How the leaderboard works

How is your SolveScore calculated?

Every game is scored out of 100. Your SolveScore is your best result in each game added together, so a perfect run on all four games is 400. Only your best run per game counts toward it, which means a bad attempt can never pull your ranking down. Play a game again and your SolveScore only moves if you beat your previous best.

When do the boards reset?

• This week resets every Monday at midnight, in your own time zone.
• This month resets on the 1st.
• All-time never resets.

A run counts toward all three boards the moment you finish it. The per-game boards rank your best score in that game; the Overall board ranks SolveScore.

How is the Bain score calculated?

It's the average of your best score in each of the four Bain sections: numerical, logical, verbal and situational judgement. A section you haven't played counts as 0, so the score rewards finishing all four. A full mock counts toward every section it contains. The Bain score runs from 0 to 100.

How is the Combined score calculated?

Each firm is scaled to 0 to 100 and the three are added, for a total out of 300. McKinsey counts as your SolveScore divided by 4. Bain counts as your Bain score. BCG counts as 0 until BCG practice exists, so everyone's Combined score is currently out of a possible 200. Your SolveScore itself doesn't change; the division is only for the Combined board.

What counts as a good score?

McKinsey does not publish pass marks or cutoffs for Solve, and it has said the real assessment looks at how you reach an answer, not only the answer itself. So treat these numbers as a measure of how well you have learned each game's mechanics, not as a prediction of your result. The Solve guide explains what each game is testing.

Getting on the board

Create a free account and finish a run of Red Rock or Sea Wolf. Free accounts get one fixed scenario per game, so replaying it can raise a score as the numbers become familiar. A score on a scenario you have never seen before, which Pro generates on every run, is the better signal that you are ready.
